You've invested in fine jewellery and you want it to last as long as possible. So how do you keep it clean and look after it?
Protecting your jewellery means looking after the stone, the metal and the setting itself.
Moissanite and precious metals like gold and platinum will withstand exposure to most household chemicals such as soaps, hand sanitiser and detergents.
Your fine jewellery, however well made, should be protected from knocks against hard surfaces. Dropping it on tiles or bumping it against metal, marble and other hard surfaces like barbells or doorknobs can cause damage to your setting or even chip your gemstone if it makes contact at the wrong angle. For this reason, we suggest you take off your rings when going to the gym.
Cleaning your fine jewellery is something you want to do regularly to maintain your moissanite's bright shine and sparkle. Soap, oils and skin can all build up in your setting and dull your jewellery, so a regular clean is a great way to keep your jewellery looking brand new.
- Squeeze a bit of dishwashing liquid into a small container like an espresso cup or shot glass
- Top it up with warm water - never boiling hot, you do not want to heat shock your ring
- Let it lie there for at least an hour or overnight and then gently scrub it with a toothbrush before rinsing
Book your ring in for a professional cleaning, polishing and inspection every other year to make sure your prongs are tight, and ask for an updated valuation while you're there so that your insurance remains up to date.
